When Juice Games commissioned us to produce both a teaser trailer and intro movie for their multi-format sequel Juiced 2: Hot Import Nights, our team knew they would be working on one of the most exciting and highly-anticipated games of 2007.

The teaser was a priority for Juice Games and it was our job to create a solution that represented the content and style of the game, including the Hot Import Nights (HIN) elements, all within 25 seconds. We had to ensure the movie would give gamers and industry enthusiasts a real flavour of the forthcoming game. We also had to produce a full 70 second intro movie that expanded on the content of the teaser to be used as a full game intro and marketing video.
Juice Games advised us that they wanted the teaser and intro movie to have a unique style unlike any other racing game. We spent a great deal of time reviewing reference material and movies, such as The Fast and the Furious and Gladiator along with the Hot Import Nights websites, in order to produced a rip-o-matic. There was a lot of consultation between all the parties involved to ensure that the content reflected the diverse aspects of the game. This was resolved further through the process of storyboard to animatic and then into 3d block out.

Characters are of significant importance in Juiced2 with a good balance of male and female drivers. We decided to focus on two lead characters one female, one male to battle for supremacy. The setting is the iconic Coliseum in Rome which suggested a gladiatorial type of combat with only one winner.

A major USP of the game is the involvement of Hot Import Nights (HIN). We had to recreate the atmosphere of a HIN event, including large crowds, DJs and dancing girls. Integrating this spectacle into the furious driving action presented an interesting narrative challenge.

Juice Games supplied us with the appropriate assets for the selected scenes along with in-game car assets. These car assets were already built to a high standard so we only needed to do a small amount of work to bring them up to the correct level. We were also supplied with low-res in game character assets which we used as reference for our own high-res character build.
Both Juice Games and THQ were delighted with the final animations.
