The concept behind the storyboard was to show both the car racing and an athlete running in an abstract, futuristic looking racetrack.
Quality was paramount and with a tight deadline meant there was no time for mistakes.
One of the many challenges the team faced was creating an animation that would be shown on a 20m (60ft) wide LED screen. This meant a resolution of over 4600 pixels wide; that’s higher resolution than needed for the cinema.
RealtimeUK created the CG car model almost completely from scratch using a combination of CAD data and photographic reference, the car had to be flawless to ensure that it would stand up to the high resolution required and was meticulously checked by our team and the Ford car designer.
A futuristic racetrack was created and the two key colours of silver and orange were used to integrate the car and the athlete into the scene.
The car was rigged and animated using dynamic camera angles that spotlight the key sporty features of the new Ford SAV. This was emphasized by using close up shots of the wheels and showing the car travelling at speed around the racetrack.
The athlete was filmed in a green screen studio by Imagination. The figure was then composited into the animation before being edited into the final movie with a music soundtrack.
